What a weekend of Life

By Del Duduit

This past weekend, Angie and I attended two events in town with two different purposes, but one main emphasis.

We woke up early on Saturday, something I love to do, and headed for “fuel” at Tim Hortons.

Then we drove over to CRADLE, our local Crisis Pregnancy Center,  for a walk through the streets of downtown Portsmouth.

CRADLE is an acronym for “Christ Centered Resources to Assist in Difficult Life Experiences.” The organization is pro-child, pro-mom, pro-dad, pro-family and Pro-Life.

Our good friend, Mandy, is the executive director and knows a few things about raising kids – she has six of her own.

Angie wrote a piece on CRADLE a couple years ago for our website, Southern Ohio Christian Voice. You can check it out here. This organization is doing some  amazing work in our area.

The reason about 250 of us walked the 30-minute route was to draw awareness to the fact that there is an alternative to abortion.

CRADLE was founded by another one of our friends, Maura Pilet (now deceased), who was a midwife here in town back in the 90’s. In 1996, she noticed that the phone book had several listings for abortion providers but none for abortion alternatives, and she brought it to the attention of John Gowdy, the pastor at Temple Baptist Church.

They did something about it and started CRADLE to show local women that abortion is not the only way for those who have an unwanted pregnancy. Although Maura is not here today to see the fruits of her efforts, others are carrying the torch.

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee; and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. (Jeremiah 1: 5 KJV)

We marched because killing a child should never be an option.

We marched because someone needs to speak for the lives of unborn children.

We marched because life is precious.

We marched because the family is under attack.

We marched because this is about life and death.

In March 2018, an abortionist in Utah admitted that she cuts the vocal cords of the doomed children in the womb to prevent their screams while she kills them. Read the story here.

Leah Torres will not apologize for this brutal and cold procedure. She is sick and twisted.

Once-famous actresses spout how they are proud they killed their children, yet you see people go insane on social media when someone harms a puppy. Never let anyone tell you that abortion is about a woman’s right to choose. It’s 100 percent evil and all about the money.

After the march ended, we changed clothes and headed across town to help at Kids Day, sponsored by our local Kiwanis club.

Angie will be president next year, and this event is well-attended.

For a few hours on Saturday, local children were given lots of attention.

They had their faces painted, enjoyed sack races, watched a demonstration from our local Police Department’s K-9 unit, petted exotic animals from our local forestry officials, enjoyed prizes and ate free food for a couple hours.

And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy children. (Isaiah 54: 13 KJV)

We participated because kids, no matter what age, should be able to have fun.

We participated because our area is poor, and many (not all) don’t have resources to enjoy themselves.

We participated because several of the kids are hungry, and this provided a meal.

We participated because this might have provided a break from their everyday reality.

We participated because it’s important to give back.

While I observed, I visited with a lot of people. One was a private investigator who attended Kids Day because he was working and looking for some adults who might have broken the law.

I spoke with another couple of folks who are raising  their grandchildren because the mother has a long history of addiction and continues to struggle.

A happy day was peppered with the harshness of tragedy.

Our morning started out marching to bring awareness to the fact that there is an alternative to abortion – it’s called life.

Then we took part in Kids Day, an event that allows local kids to enjoy life.

Afterwards, we headed back home and hosted our family for a cookout to embrace life.

Enjoying the family around the fire pit.

I grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, and we spent the evening together outside around a warm fire. The gals played Uno, and we made s’mores around the campfire.

We visited with our sons, their wives, and our grandchildren.

Sophie loves S’mores.

Saturday was a day filled with blessings of life.

We marched that morning because all kids deserve a chance to eat a S’more.

We participated at Kids Day because sitting around with family is precious.

We visited with our kids because we love them, and the family is the backbone of this nation and the greatest institution created by God.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. (Psalm 133: 1 KJV)

What a weekend. What a LIFE.

How was yours spent? Do you place life first?
