Beckie’s SECRET is Out!

By Del Duduit

We’ve been on this journey together.

My friend, Beckie Lindsey, saw one of her dreams come true a few weeks ago when her manuscript turned into a published young adult fiction book titled Secrets: Beauties from Ashes Series.

The first of three is off to a tremendous success.

Beckie and I met just more than a year ago, and we have developed a friendship I treasure.

We speak often, and she not only has a wonderful talent to write but a tremendous gift of prayer.

Even though she lives about 2,500 miles away in the Golden State, I feel as though she’s the sister I never had.

My wife, Angie, and I met Beckie and her husband Scott in person last year at the Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference. Just before that event, she signed to be represented by my agent, Cyle Young of Hartline Literary Agency.

Over the past many months, we have had several phone conversations, and she always encourages me on my writing journey. I hope I do the same for her at times.

We have a lot in common. We both enjoy writing. We have the same agent. We both have grown children. And we both enjoy football – although I am baffled by her choice to cheer on the Steelers since she is a Cali girl.

And soon, we will both be published – albeit she beat me by a few weeks.

I admire the book she wrote, which is published by Elk Lake Publishing, Inc. But I love the motivation behind the inspiration for the series.

Beckie, Patty, Cherrilynn, and Angie at the 2017 BRMCWC.

About four years ago, she said she hosted her daughter’s youth group at her home.

Teenage girls have an attraction and fascination with the supernatural, vampires and drama. Beckie’s daughter was no different.

But when she listened to the dialogue and watched a scene from a movie the girls were watching, she was shocked.

“Some of it was nonsense and drama with no resolution,” Beckie told me. “I wanted to put light on the supernatural for what it is, so I started to write.”

She saw in the program drama without hope. Plots with no purpose. And characters without redemption.

The Bible teaches we are created with eternity in mind. But shows that feature walking dead people do not depict a Biblical view of redemption, purpose or hope.

What an opportunity to witness for the Lord to a captivated audience, she thought.

She started writing to minister to young people, teenage girls in particular.

Four years later, she is a published author. And has a series to boot.  She never saw that coming, but she’s grateful to be used by God.

My friend Beckie and me at the BRMCWC.

Beckie views this as an opportunity to reach young adults whose attention is difficult to attract.

She believes the series will help soften up readers to the point they can discuss taboo topics – or secrets – they have.

“It can be hard for teenagers to talk about problems they encounter, like alcohol or sex,” she said. “But I hope and pray this book will help them see a different side of the supernatural. One where there is hope that can only be given through a relationship with God.”

I am excited, thrilled and proud for Beckie. I know she’s worked hard for this moment, and I know she is on my side too. That means a lot to Angie and me.

I encourage everyone to get a copy of Secrets: Beauties from Ashes, Series Book 1, and continue to follow the story. There are no secrets with Christ. He knows all and offers hope to a dying world.

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” ROMANS 15: 13

Now that is a supernatural story I want to read.

  1. I had the honor and the privilege to edit Beckie’s book (not that it needed much!), and writing a review of Secrets on my blog. She has such a heart for young people, and her writing style is amazing. Here’s to much success for Beckie’s book and for yours, Del!
    Blessings!

  2. Del,
I am humbled and honored to be featured on your blog. I mean goodness, you have written about some pretty amazing people. Thanks for taking the time to let your readers in on “Secrets.” I pray the Lord uses it to bless others.

Scott and I treasure the friendship we have developed with you and Angie, too! Maybe we can drag you both to a Steelers game if we are in your neck of the woods 🙂
