I See Potential in 2021

Perhaps the debacle that was 2020 provided some motivation for this year. At least it did for me.

Life as usual was crippled as if someone hit the pause button on the daily routine.

Everyday actions like grabbing a cup of coffee and meeting friends were halted.

We now readily accept people stopping us to ask about our health and telling us where we can or cannot go.

In the blink of an eye, our lives have turned back to a time that seems similar to pre-World War II Germany.

Or maybe we are even reminded of the Great Depression, a time where pictures reflect long lines of people waiting for rationed food.

Or perhaps we look back to the pandemic in 1918 caused by the H1N1 influenza.

According to historical documents, about one-third of the world’s population at that time was infected, and approximately 50 million people died across the globe with 675,000 deaths recorded in the United States.

History has repeated itself, as it often does.

 

We are certainly living in dark and chaotic times.

But enough about what you have already been exposed to by the media.

Let’s talk about the potential instead of the past. There is light to be seen off in the distance.

The new year has just started, and exciting possibilities are in store.

You have two choices:

• Sit back and be afraid.
• Go forward with caution and with excitement at the same time.

I choose the latter.

The American spirit is strong, alive, and well, and it will not be squashed.

It’s okay to be cautious because there is a lot on the line with the virus. But strides are being made for containment, and modern medicine is doing what it can at breakneck speed to find an effective vaccine.

My outlook, thanks to the reaction of the pandemic, is to go into the New Year with optimism and enthusiasm.

The one thing the virus taught me is to not wait anymore. Time and tomorrow are not guaranteed. But this doesn’t mean I chuck everything and live with abandon.

For me, it means to stop procrastinating. The time is now.

The two-minute warning has been called.

This life is short, and It took a global pandemic to kick me in the pants.

I need to be responsible, but I also need to fulfill an internal desire to do more.

I believe everyone wants to make a positive difference.

There is nothing wrong with working an honest job and providing for your needs and those of your family.

Everyone has different dreams.

But if there is one thing this pandemic showed me, it is that time is going by too fast.

I am not a selfish person, but I feel I must do something for me, something that will also allow me more time to do what I enjoy the most.

The fear I have kept secret has been replaced with determination.

As I grow older, some material items just don’t matter.

The year 2021 promises to be a non-stop 12 months scheduled with potential and fun.

I plan to make a positive impact for myself, my family, and my ministry.

Could I fail? Of course.

Could I succeed? Yes.

But the point is, I won’t know unless I try. My personality tells me to go all out and go for the touchdown instead of the first down.

I also want to encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and do more this year for God.

Don’t let restrictions limit what you can do.

• Go after opportunities. They won’t present themselves. Tim Tebow never thought about calling me for an interview. I went and got it.
• Be bold. There is nothing wrong with being aggressive. Know your boundaries and be respectful. But at the same time, develop a plan to reach your goals. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. (Joshua 1: 9)
• View rejection as an opportunity to do more. A “no” means another option awaits. Maybe God has something better for you.
• Never give up. Abe Lincoln suffered many losses before he was elected President of the United States. His impact is still appreciated today.
• Find out. You’ll never know the answer until you ask the question. Don’t be afraid to fail.

The time is now to make an impact. What can you do in 2021 – the year of accomplishment?
