Having Impossible Faith

After three years in the making, it will finally be released.

The original manuscript that introduced me to the world of Christian writing will make its debut around Thanksgiving.

The release of this book is bittersweet because it was inspired out of mostly tragic events.

I struggled with several titles over the years but landed on Having Impossible Faith.

The idea for this book came from my wife, Angie.

My family had just gone through an emotional event which was followed by a bizarre circumstance that still leaves us bewildered and speechless.

All of this is addressed in the book.

Throughout your life, whether you are a Christian or not, you may have the occasion to question God about why certain things happen. I’ve done it, and most likely, you have too.

I don’t believe there is anything wrong with questioning God, unless it consumes you, and unless you never accept His answer. Some things we will never understand until we get to Heaven.

This book not only looks at “why” bad things happen to good people, but “how” good people deal with bad situations.

And bad things will happen. No one is exempt from going through life’s storms.

I’m not talking about not being able to order apple pie at a restaurant because someone in front of you grabbed the last piece. I describe real problems.

This book examines life and death.

The true stories are about two women and one man, all Christians, how they handled negative situations, and how they found a way to glorify God through it all.

At times, they could easily have tossed in the towel and gave up on everything, including their faith. But they did not do that. In fact, they used and accepted what was happening to them to lead by example and to face struggles head on.

The book has its moments of darkness that might lead you to question why things happen too.

I hope you will read it after the launch, because it had an effect on me, and it took an emotional toll on me as I wrote it. One lady who proofread the manuscript put a note on the first page of chapter one. She apologized that some of the pages were smeared, because she was so touched that she cried as she read the book.

I enjoyed the research because it involved lengthy conversations with people about their loved ones, but I must admit that it was difficult at times because some of the memories were painful. I knew one of the women in the book very well, and I wished I had known the other one.

And the man who is featured is a good friend of mine still today.

God puts people in our lives for a reason, and we must take advantage of these opportunities. The three subjects in this book took their circumstances – although not fair – and glorified God to the fullest. They trusted Him for direction, and He provided a wonderful road map. Not everyone sees or understands the plans God has in store, but we must be patient.

I remember one day when I was young, my dad loaded the family up in the car and said we were going on a surprise trip. I didn’t know what was going on and was frustrated because I wanted to do something else. An hour later, we arrived at an amusement park. He surprised me in a good way. But I didn’t like waiting to find out what his plans were, and I still don’t like to wait. I like to know what is going to happen ahead of time.

The three people in this book had an unyielding faith and deep devotion to God. Their examples continue to have a dramatic and positive influence on people’s lives today. This heartwarming book will give the reader hope when they face a trial.

Here is how I described the book to potential publishers in my “elevator pitch.”

Could your faith inspire a movement by having a life-changing impact on thousands of people during your last few weeks on this earth? Could you trust God to bring you an egg to eat when you could not afford one? Could you trust God if you were told you only had a few weeks to live? Dee Dee, Lois and Billy had impossible faith and did not back down when times were tough and hopeless. Their story of magnificent faith and inspiration is a must-read for all who have faced life’s fiery trials. It’s a story about overcoming fear and doubt and living with triumph and victory that only God can give you.

Having Impossible Faith can be tough, but it can also bring grace, hope, healing and survival to anyone under the most difficult and insurmountable circumstances they may encounter during a lifetime.

The last chapter in the book is personal. I describe an event that happened to Angie, and I go into detail about how I lacked truth faith. But once I got out of the way and gave the situation to God, I watched Him work a miracle and answer our prayers.

Having faith is easy when life is good, but when things turn sour, that’s when it’s put to the test.
